Check out 7 tips on how to properly clean your hydroponic system
Correctly cleaning the profiles and the entire hydroponic system is essential to ensure healthy growth of the plants. Cleaning the system helps prevent pests, preventing diseases during the cultivation cycle.
We recommend cleaning the entire system at least once a month. Therefore, Hortivinyl has gathered some tips to help you to keep on top of cleaning your hydroponics. Check them out:
- Use chlorine dioxide to help clean the system: chlorine dioxide is used to disinfect water regardless of the pH value. Dioxide degrades bacterial plaque in tubes and tanks, protecting all of the production. This is very important to prevent pests and diseases during cultivation.
- Change the water in the reservoir after cleaning: this is an essential action to keep the system completely clean and disinfected for the next cultivation cycle.
- Leave the system on, without the plants, for the water to circulate and remove residue (dirt crust)
- To clean the profiles, use mild detergent. We recommend this product because it doesn’t damage the profiles. Furthermore, as the profiles do not come into contact with large amounts of dirt, the detergent is well suited for the cleaning needs.
- Wash the profiles with water and detergent, using a jet washer or hose.
- Avoid using excessive pressure when cleaning, as high water pressure can damage and even break the profiles.
- We do not recommend using bleach too often, as it can dry out the profile and damage it.
